8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Our Very Own Omar Pryce will share his amazing story "From Juvenile Delinquency to Judaism."

He was a full participant in street warfare with rival gang members. He was a teenager who made a living robbing drug dealers. He was a gangster by choice, eventually making the decision to become a Jew by choice, a choice born within the confines of prison. Arrested as a teenager, over 16 years completed of a 24 year prison sentence was the incredible prelude to his entry into an Orthodox Jewish conversion program.

Nearing release, Omar contacted Rabbi Yisroel Ciner at Beth Jacob Congregation Irvine in Orange County, California, who told him that he would be welcomed upon his release from prison. Subsequently, on October 22, 2018, Omar was released early from prison due to the passage of a new prison reform law. Rabbi Ciner and countless members from the community made Omar’s transition into Jewish life seamless, making the Beth Jacob community the first community that he has ever felt truly a part of.

Omar graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and is currently scheduled to graduate in December of this year with his Master of Social Work degree from USC. Omar works as a program manager for a non-profit organization in South Los Angeles and is therapist trainee at the Jewish residential addiction treatment center Beit T’Shuvah.
