In February, the talk by writer and Israel expert Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblum, was attended by a lively group who found the depth of his knowledge of current Israeli politics spellbinding. In an article published in Cross Currents and reprinted in the Jerusalem Post, the rabbi spells out the very difficult situation Israel and Jews throughout the world find themselves. The rabbi concluded by putting current events in the context of Torah, what has happened to the Jewish people from its inception as a nation to the present. The solution is in the hands of every Jew to lead a Torah life. Only when Jews commit to follow the Torah will the situation be reversed. The rabbi gave many wonderful examples of changes that are taking place throughout the world, Kiruv movements, and a quiet revolution of frum women reaching out to secular women. Rabbi Rosenblum showed that the solution is not political, not financial, not just visiting Israel, and certainly not someone else’s responsibility. The solution is up to the individual Jew who in his/her sphere of influence, the home and community, can make an enormous difference. |
